How long have you been in business?
Platinum Painting of Plano opened doors in 2008 when DFW residents Karl and Marjorie Pickens noticed that other residential painting companies only offered homeowners the choice of the paint color. In over a decade, Platinum Painting of Plano has given more than 10,000 homeowners in North Texas results that they love!
How long does the process take?
We are usually able to get one of our estimators to your home within two to four days after your call. Then, they provide a written estimate for the project. When you decide that you want to move forward, we can typically schedule the work to start two weeks later. Depending on the number and size of the rooms or the project, the actual painting process can vary, but we can generally finish within a few days.
What type of paint do you use?
As the homeowner, you have full control over the paint we use. We can certainly use your preferred brand or type of paint. However, we often promote and use Sherwin Williams’ Cashmere Interior Acrylic Latex and SuperPaint Exterior Acrylic paints. In general, we get the best value for the price with these paints, and our homeowners are happy with the results every time.
Is There Really a Difference Between Interior & Exterior Paint?
The main difference separating interior and exterior paint lies in the formulation of the two materials. The former mostly needs to be sturdy yet capable of being scrubbed for easier cleaning within your house. Exterior paint, however, requires weather resistance and UV protection to ensure a longer lifespan. To help keep long-term coverage over the outside of your house, the binding resin within exterior paint is typically softer and can prevent fading, peeling, and chipping. Interior paint has a more rigid resin, which minimizes scuffing and smearing.
When Should You Not Paint the Outside of a House?
In most cases, you should consider painting the outside of your home when it is at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit before applying the paint. It also should not drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit for a few days after painting. The lower the temperature drops, the less likely the paint will form a good film on the exterior. Paint usually requires several days to cure, and if any dew accumulates, it can cause the water in the paint to evaporate too slowly. Lower temperatures can also increase the risk of mildew or stains, so it’s best to plan to paint during warmer weather. Our team always keeps these considerations in mind during our planning phase, so that we can ensure the results go beyond your expectations.
Do I Need to Wash the Outside of My House Before Painting?
Washing your house is actually an important part of preparing to paint the outside of it. By using a power washer, you can more thoroughly clean the exterior surfaces, such as the wood and siding, to make sure the paint sticks to them more efficiently. Additionally, washing your house can help the paint appear fresher while also extending its longevity, which can also improve your home’s curb appeal. Fortunately, our team has many years of experience working on numerous houses and will be sure to utilize the best tools to prep and paint your house so that we can achieve your dream goals.
How Often Should the Exterior of My House Be Painted?
Although there is no specific timeline for every home, there are several things that could indicate a new paint job should happen soon. According to most experts, a house may require new paint every 5-10 years, which will depend on various factors like climate, weather, and even the previous paint job results. The material of the outside surface is also important, as wood siding may need repainting every 3-7 years, while brick may need a touch-up after 15-20 years if it’s been painted.
